Its been real!
Dear Diary~
I have been at CrossFit West Sac for a year now. Boy time flies!! I remember my first WOD like it was yesterday. I showed up to a park in West Sac (mind you I had never even been to West Sacramento and I’ve lived in Sac my whole life) and there was a bunch of equipment I had never used before. There were a few guys standing around. Guys I now know as Rick Larson, Dan Porter, JP, and Special K.
And man was I prepared!!! I had my cute little HOTT PINK shorts on, my water bottle filled with extra ice, my matching pink and yellow hat, freshly cleaned nike’s!! I was set. “BRING IT ON!!” I thought, “I’ve got this!”
Next thing you know EGO CHECK! It took me 3 attempts to get my first 16 inch box jump. Then we moved on from there to the “Ab Mat sit-up” which my little pink shorts were not ready for! Thanks to “Old Blue” (JP’s sweatshirt) I was able to do them modestly for three rounds. Station #3, THE SNATCH! After being shown the movement about 2 or 3 times I walked right up to the bar and went for it! Seconds later DP was helping me up off the concrete. Mind you it was 33lb bar no plates. I was so confident that morning that I was “fit” that I could do any/every exercise in the book. I was dead wrong. I might not have shown it that day, but I was humbled by the workout Rick had put us through. At the same time excited that there was still something out there that I had yet to learn in the realm of fitness. And that is exactly why I came out that very morning 1 year ago.

Since that day so many things have changed in my life my attitude, my body, my eating habits, my confidence, and my mental strength. Some things I was never even looking to have changed. I could have never predicted I would be a whole different person just by changing my fitness regimen. Rick, JP and Dan have become 3 of the most important men in my life. They not only are my trainers and coaches, but they are mentors and role models to me in my everyday life. They are people that have pushed me and then asked me to push myself even harder simply because they believed in me. Yes at first I was apprehensive, but as soon as I took a swig of the Kool-aid I never looked back. I get to spend my afternoons with the most awesome group of people, people who have bought into the same ideas about health and fitness as I. You have all become great friends. I also have a very special place for all of the women at CFWS. Everyday I come in my goal is to make you as strong and confident as possible. Because I believe we are just as tough if not tougher than any man. Also because functional movement is functional movement no matter whom you are.
Every time a new person walks through the door at CFWS it’s as if another CrossFit baby is born. And as a family we all raise it and nurture it and help them grow. To everyone at CFWS thank you! Thank you for pushing me, encouraging me, oh and putting up with me! I am a better person because of you!
